Why should I choose Telkomsel SIM for my trip to Bali?

Telkomsel is Indonesia’s largest mobile operator and widely considered to have the widest coverage and strongest signal in Bali. Whether you are in the busy streets of Seminyak, the jungles of Ubud, or island-hopping to Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands, Telkomsel generally offers the most reliable 4G and 5G connection.

Will this SIM work outside of Bali?

Yes! Our Telkomsel SIM cards and eSIMs work throughout all of Indonesia, including Jakarta, Lombok, Komodo Island, Yogyakarta, Raja Ampat, Batam, Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku Islands, and Papua.

Can I use my original number for WhatsApp if I use your eSIM?

Yes! When you install the new eSIM (or insert the physical SIM), your phone will ask if you want to update your number for WhatsApp. Simply select "Keep My Current Number". This allows you to use Indonesian data (internet) while keeping your home number for WhatsApp chats and calls.

Do I need an unlocked phone?

Yes. Your phone must be "carrier unlocked" to use any SIM card from a different provider. If you are unsure, please contact your home mobile carrier to confirm your device is unlocked before purchasing.

How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?

Most modern smartphones (iPhone 11 and newer, Samsung S20 and newer, Samsung Z Fold/Flip 3 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, Xiaomi 12T Pro and newer) support eSIM.

Please check your phone’s specifications or settings to ensure it is "eSIM compatible" before purchasing.

What is the difference between an eSIM and a SIM card (physical)?

  • Physical SIM: A traditional card that you insert into your phone's SIM tray.
  • eSIM: A digital SIM that you download to your phone by scanning a QR code. It works exactly like a physical card but without the hassle of swapping tiny chips.

Activation & Registration

Will the eSIM work before I arrive in Indonesia?

You can install the eSIM while you are still at home, but it will not connect or activate until you land in Indonesia and pick up the local Telkomsel signal.

Do I need to register my IMEI?

Yes, Indonesia has strict regulations requiring all phones to register their IMEI to connect to local networks.

  • The Good News: When you buy a Tourist Prepaid SIM from us, we handle the registration for you. The tourist registration is valid for 30 days.
  • What we need: We will need your (1) Passport details and your device's (2) IMEI number to complete the registration before you arrive.

When should I buy my SIM or eSIM?

We recommend purchasing at least 24-48 hours before your flight. This gives us enough time to process your registration so you can connect the moment you land at Ngurah Rai Bali International Airport (DPS).

How do I activate my eSIM?

  1. Purchase the eSIM on this website.
  2. Check your email for the QR Code and instructions.
  3. Fill the Registration Form. Prepare your passport and phone's IMEI number (dial *#06# to see it).
  4. Upload a photo of your Passport, a Selfie, and a screenshot of your IMEI.
  5. Scan the QR code (ensure you have WiFi/Internet connection when scanning).
  6. The plan will activate automatically once your phone connects to the Telkomsel network in Indonesia.

How do I activate my SIM card?

  1. Purchase the SIM card on this website.
  2. Check your email for the instructions.
  3. Fill the Registration Form. Prepare your passport and phone's IMEI number (dial *#06# to see it).
  4. Upload a photo of your Passport, a Selfie, and a screenshot of your IMEI.
  5. The plan will activate automatically once your phone connects to the Telkomsel network in Indonesia.

Do I need to register my passport?

Yes. Indonesian regulations require all SIM (including tourist prepaid cards) to be registered with a valid ID. We handle the registration for you. You will need to upload a clear photo of your passport.

Why do you need my Passport and Selfie?

This is a mandatory requirement by the Indonesian government for all telecommunications equipment. To register a "Tourist SIM," we must validate your identity against your passport and device IMEI.

Rest assured, your data is used strictly for this registration.

How do I find my IMEI number for the screenshot?

Dial *#06# on your keypad, and a screen will pop up with your IMEI and barcodes. Take a screenshot of this screen to upload.

When should I submit the Registration Form?

Submit the form at least 24-48 hours before your flight.

This gives our team enough time to process the registration so your connection is ready the moment you land.

I heard about "IMEI Blocking" in Indonesia. Will my phone work?

If you are staying for less than 90 days, you generally do not need to pay the IMEI tax. We register your card as a "Tourist" activation, which whitelists your phone for network usage during your stay.

Data, Usage & Top-Ups

Can I share my internet (Hotspot/Tethering)?

Yes! All our Telkomsel plans allow personal hotspot and tethering. You can share your data with your laptop, tablet, or travel partner.

What happens if I run out of data?

You can easily top up your data.

We recommend downloading the MyTelkomsel App once you have your new number. You can purchase additional data packages directly through the app using a credit card or e-wallet, or contact us for a top-up service.

Does the SIM come with a phone number?

Yes, both the Physical SIM and eSIM come with a local Indonesian (+62) phone number.

You can receive calls and texts (helpful for GoJek/Grab drivers or hotel reservations).
