Why the Prices Are So Different
1. Different networks cost different money
Most travel eSIM brands do not own a network. They buy wholesale data and resell it.
One brand buys from a premium network. Another buys the cheapest wholesale it can find. In Bali this matters a lot. Coverage that works fine in Kuta and Seminyak can fail in Ubud, Amed, Sidemen, or Nusa Penida.
2. Data size is not the whole product
Two plans can both say 10GB and behave completely differently. Some providers slow you down after heavy use. Some put local customers ahead of roaming customers when the tower is busy. Some limit hotspot sharing.
3. You are often paying for marketing
The big brands spend heavily on Google Ads, YouTube sponsorships, travel influencers, and affiliate commissions. Those costs end up in the price you pay.
A brand paying a 20% affiliate commission has to charge more than one that does not.
4. Some brands sell cheap on purpose
The travel eSIM market is crowded. Newer brands often accept thin profits to get downloads and reviews. That is why some prices look impossibly low.
5. Multi-country plans cost more
A plan covering Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore needs agreements with several networks. It will cost more than an Indonesia-only plan. If you are only visiting Bali, you are paying for countries you will never enter.
The Thing Price Does Not Show You
Here is what almost every provider on this page has in common. They are data only.
That means no Indonesian phone number, no local SMS, and no local calls.
For a lot of travelers that is fine. But it breaks these things:
- Gojek and Grab. Both send a verification code by SMS. They often refuse to send it to a foreign number.
- QRIS payments. The Indonesian wallet apps want a local number.
- Local bookings. Restaurants, drivers, and tour guides call and text Indonesian numbers.
A local Telkomsel eSIM includes a real +62 number. That is the actual difference between the two categories, and it does not show up in a price table.
