The Balitel 60-day eSIM is a local Telkomsel plan for people staying in Bali or anywhere in Indonesia for about two months — long-stay visitors, digital nomads and slow travellers. It costs USD $63, includes 150GB of data, 30 minutes of local calls, 30 SMS and a real Indonesian +62 number, and needs only one IMEI registration for the whole 60 days.

Why One 60-Day Plan Beats Two 30-Day Plans

To use an Indonesian SIM or eSIM, a foreign phone must have its IMEI (the phone's serial number) registered with the Indonesian government. A tourist registration lasts as long as your plan: 30 days on a 30-day plan, 60 days on this plan. Telkomsel allows only two tourist registrations a year per phone (IMEI) and per passport — so switching to a second phone does not reset the limit.

Tourist eSIMs cannot be extended. When a 30-day plan ends, you have to buy a new eSIM — which means a new number and a second registration.

A new number matters more than it sounds. Gojek, Grab, GoPay, OVO, DANA and banks send verification codes to your number. Changing it halfway through your stay means verifying those accounts again.

What happens after two registrations? Once you have used both tourist registrations in a year, Indonesian SIMs stop working in your phone. You then have two choices: buy a phone in Indonesia (it is registered for life), or register your own phone with Indonesian customs (Bea Cukai) and pay import duty and taxes of roughly 40% of the phone's value.

We are travelling round the whole island and needed an esim that used the best network for coverage. On our previous three visits to Bali, our experience was that Telkomsel provided that cover. We also didn't want to queue at the airport to activate an esim.
