The Balitel 90-day eSIM is a local Telkomsel plan for people staying in Bali or anywhere in Indonesia for three months or more — digital nomads, long-stay visitors and slow travellers. It costs USD $81, includes 200GB of data, 30 minutes of local calls, 30 SMS and a real Indonesian +62 number, and needs only one IMEI registration for the whole 90 days. Two of these plans cover 180 days, the longest stay a C1 visa allows.

Why a 90-Day Plan Instead of 30-Day Plans

To use an Indonesian SIM or eSIM, a foreign phone must have its IMEI (the phone's serial number) registered with the Indonesian government. A tourist registration lasts as long as your plan: 30 days on a 30-day plan, 90 days on this plan. Telkomsel allows only two tourist registrations a year per phone (IMEI) and per passport — so switching to a second phone does not reset the limit.

Tourist eSIMs cannot be extended. Three months on 30-day plans would need three registrations, and you only get two.

Even a 60-day plan plus a 30-day plan (USD $94) uses up both of your registrations for the year. The 90-day plan leaves you one spare.

A new number matters more than it sounds. Gojek, Grab, GoPay, OVO, DANA and banks send verification codes to your number. Changing it during your stay means verifying those accounts again.

We are travelling round the whole island and needed an esim that used the best network for coverage. On our previous three visits to Bali, our experience was that Telkomsel provided that cover. We also didn't want to queue at the airport to activate an esim. Balitel were able to manage all the requirements before we left with lots of communication through WhatsApp meaning we had Internet as soon as we arrived.
