The average foreign visitor to Bali stays 12.34 nights in Indonesia, about 13 to 14 days. The visitor in the middle of the line stays 13.41 nights, about 14 to 15 days.

Southeast Asia (ASEAN) 712,697 4.63 nights
All foreign visitors (average) 6,948,754 12.34 nights

How we worked out 12.34 nights. BPS gives the average stay for each region, not for each country. We multiplied each region’s visits by its average nights and added them up. Then we divided by all visits:

85,733,312 nights ÷ 6,948,754 visits = 12.34 nights

The seven regions cover every 2025 visit, so nothing is guessed. The average is pulled down by Oceania: it sends a quarter of all visitors (25.9%) but stays only 9.48 nights.

The middle visitor: 13.41 nights. Line up every 2025 visit from the shortest regional stay to the longest. The visit in the middle falls in the Asia group, which averages 13.41 nights. This is a middle value of regional averages, not the exact middle trip, because BPS publishes averages only.

BPS counts nights, the way a hotel does. To turn nights into days, add 1: a 4-night trip covers 5 days. The figures cover the whole trip in Indonesia, not only nights in Bali. For what this means for your own trip, see How Many Days Should You Stay in Bali?

Pick an eSIM that fits your stay. The average visitor stays about 13 to 14 days, and every regional average is under 30 days. So one 30-day eSIM covers a typical Bali trip. Balitel’s 30-day plans come in 10 GB, 20 GB, 53 GB and 103 GB.

  • Summer holidays in the north. The UK, France, Germany, Japan and South Korea all peak in July or August, when schools close for summer. French schools closed on 5 July 2025.
  • Winter holidays in the south. Australia peaks in July, during its school winter holidays (late June to July). Bali is warm and dry then, and only a short flight away.
  • New Year breaks. China peaks in January: Chinese New Year fell on 29 January 2025, with an 8-day holiday from 28 January to 4 February. Russia also peaks in January, when Russians get a long official New Year break and escape the cold.
  • School calendars in Asia. India peaks in May, when schools break for summer (Delhi schools closed from 11 May to 30 June 2025). Malaysia peaks in September, during the school term break (12 to 21 September 2025). Singapore peaks in December, during the year-end school holidays (22 November to 31 December 2025).

The quiet months make sense too. In February, Australian children are back at school and Bali is in its rainy season. November falls between the European summer and Christmas.

Which months are the most expensive and cheapest to visit Bali?

Flights to Bali cost the most in July and December. They cost the least in Bali’s quiet months: January to March and November. This matches the BPS visitor numbers: the busiest months are the most expensive.

Average return fare to Bali (Denpasar) by month, on KAYAK
Flying from Cheapest month Most expensive months
Australia February (A$398) December (A$797), July (A$739)
United States March (US$1,091) December (US$1,776), July (US$1,568)
United Kingdom November (£666) July (£1,023), December (£999)
Singapore January (S$179) August (S$325), July (S$305)

Prices are KAYAK’s average return fares found over the past 12 months, checked on 8 October 2026. Your price will depend on your city and how early you book.

  • Most expensive: July. It is the most or second most expensive month from every place above. School holidays in Australia, Europe and Asia overlap, so planes fill up.
  • Also expensive: December. It is the most expensive month from Australia and the United States, and second from the UK. December is not the busiest month for arrivals, but fares jump around Christmas and New Year, when many people fly at once.
  • Cheapest: after the holidays. January to March and November are cheapest, depending on where you fly from. These months fall in Bali’s rainy season (about November to March), when fewer people travel.
  • In between: April to June, and September to October. Bali is usually dry then, and fares sit between the cheapest and most expensive months.

What about hotels? We did not find a reliable month-by-month price list for Bali hotels. Hotels usually price by demand, so expect the highest rates in July, August and the Christmas to New Year weeks, and the best deals in February, March and November. Book early for the peak weeks.

How to read these numbers

BPS counts entries recorded by Bali’s immigration offices. Keep these points in mind:

  • Visits, not people. Someone who flies into Bali twice in a year is counted twice.
  • By passport, not where people live. A British passport holder living in Singapore counts as British.
  • Direct arrivals only. Only people who enter Indonesia at Bali are counted: Ngurah Rai airport (99.41% of arrivals in 2025) and the Benoa and Celukan Bawang sea ports. A tourist who lands in Jakarta first and then flies to Bali is not in these numbers.
  • Regions changed slightly in 2025. The 2025 report lists the Middle East as its own region. The 2019 to 2024 table puts countries like Saudi Arabia under Asia. So we compare countries across years, not regions.
  • One gap in the data. The BPS 2019 to 2024 table shows no figure for India in 2023.
  • One label error in the report. In the Africa section, the BPS text says “Middle East” (Timur Tengah) next to the 15.39-night figure. That figure is Africa’s. The Middle East’s own figure is 13.11 nights.
