    How we work it out
    1. Each app you tap adds its data a day (see the table).
    2. "Normal" is about 45 minutes a day in each video, social or game app. "A little" halves it. "A lot" doubles it.
    3. Data a day × days = data for your trip.
    4. We pick the smallest plan that keeps at least 20% spare, for app updates and photos.

    Questions people ask

How much data do I need for 1 week in Bali?

About 5 GB if you use Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram and Gojek or Grab (taxi and food delivery apps). The 10 GB plan fits. Add TikTok and YouTube and you need about 13 GB: get the 20 GB plan.

Is 20 GB enough for 2 weeks in Bali?

Yes, if you use Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram and Gojek or Grab (taxi and food delivery apps). That's about 9 GB. Add TikTok and YouTube and you need about 26 GB: get the 53 GB plan.

How much data do I need for a month in Bali?

About 20 GB if you use Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram and Gojek or Grab (taxi and food delivery apps). Get the 53 GB plan, so you have room to spare. Watching videos on Wi-Fi keeps it low.

Can I buy more than one eSIM?

Yes, but only 2 eSIMs in 12 months, whichever plan you choose (30, 60 or 90 days). Staying more than 30 days? Get one 60- or 90-day eSIM, not several 30-day ones.

How much data do I need to work remotely from Bali?

If you work on your laptop with your phone's hotspot and have a video call every day, plan for about 2 GB a day. That's about 60 GB a month: get the 103 GB plan.

    What uses the most data?

Cloud gaming (about 3 GB an hour), live sports (about 1 GB an hour), a laptop on hotspot (about 1 GB a day), videos (TikTok, Netflix and YouTube: 0.5 to 0.7 GB a day each) and photo backup to iCloud or Google Photos. Google Maps, WhatsApp, AI chat and taxi apps like Gojek and Grab use very little.

Do online games use a lot of data?

It depends on the game. Puzzle, card, word and board games like Candy Crush use very little, under 20 MB an hour. Action, battle and racing games like PUBG, Free Fire and Mobile Legends use about 15 to 100 MB an hour. Roblox uses about 100 MB an hour, more on busy servers. Cloud gaming (Xbox Cloud, GeForce NOW) streams the game like a video and uses about 3 GB an hour, so play it on Wi-Fi. Game updates can be big too.

Can I watch live sports on mobile data?

Yes, but it uses about 1 GB an hour, so a 2-hour match is about 2 GB. Turn on the app's data saver (DAZN then uses about 0.4 GB an hour) or watch on Wi-Fi. Checking scores uses very little, and Strava uses only about 1 MB to upload a 2-hour workout.

Does ChatGPT use a lot of data?

No. Typing to ChatGPT or Gemini uses only a few MB an hour. Talking to it out loud (voice mode) uses about 60 to 120 MB an hour.

Do I need to tap every app on my phone?

No. Only tap the apps you use away from Wi-Fi. Weather, banking, notes, e-books and most other apps use very little data, so they hardly change the answer.

What happens if I run out of data?

Message us on WhatsApp and we add more data. Extra data lasts until your eSIM ends. Unused data does not carry over.

Can I share my data with my laptop?

Yes. Hotspot (tethering) is allowed on every Balitel plan. A laptop uses about 1 GB a day, so tap Laptop hotspot in the calculator.
